I’ve done more video than stills so that is the way I would tell you to go. I’ve found that video is more in demand thatnstills. Anyway, before you move to the Middle East, and I’m assuming you’re in the US, try working a large urban area. A lot of tv stations will buy video of shootings, fires, and wrecks. If you get good at it you will make contacts you can use later. Basic gear would be a police scanner, map, cell phone, and whatever camera gear you’ll need. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, shooting an incident is only half of the job, the other half is getting the details of what you have shot. Good luck and hope this helps.
